The computer saga continues

For those only on LJ, the PC died last Wednesday. The startup registry got corrupted. We tried reloading the OS and replacing the hard drive. Nothing worked. The computer is dead.

Tonight I went to Frys to purchase a new one. After pondering for a while, I chose an HP refub. model that while does not replace what I had, it would have more memory and more HD space, and cost $350. A new copy of NERO and a couple of minor gadgets later, and I was on my way home.

After Miles was in bed I unpacked the CPU and plugged it in. The result: black screen of death: this computer had the same startup registry corruption.

One is an event.
Twice is a coincidence.
Three times is a statistic.
Four times is a sign from God that I can't have a PC right now.

I'll be on the un-syncable iPhone for Internet until further notice. The Zune and iPhone can be charged without a PC.

While I am frustrated to the point of tears (no Doctor Who on Christmas Day), I am still thankful for the important stuff: My wife, my boys, a brother-Christ in Austin who keeps me accountable, and a Church where the Gospel is preached weekly.

Now, if I could just findy music folder before tomorrow night's service....

Upcoming Speech: danger of binary politics

I am giving a manual speech to St. Andrew's Speakers on Thursday night. I've got to come up with how to express my disgust with Congress' current state of "you said it, therefore I must oppose it with my last ounce of strength" mentality without taking sides.

The other challenge is to find a Toastmasters manual this speech can go in that I won't be bored trying to finish.

Amzaing Boy Tricks
My 3.83 year old son is in his playroom writing words with Sivi watching over him. He knows how to spell his name, pumpkin, Mama, Papa, and other simple words.

He's not 4 and already knows how to write (with help prompting what letters to write, but he can do it). This is an amazing thing.

Veteran's Day
Tom Taylor, in his email column for Radio-Info.com put it very well today:

“Armistice Day” became “Veteran’s Day” in 1954, which fittingly recognized the human role of the men and women in uniform. Armistice Day began by order of Woodrow Wilson in 1919 as a memorial to the end of the “Great War” we now call World War I. That terrible ordeal had ended on November 11, 1918 – the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. President Dwight D. Eisenhower, the great World War II general who knew about war and sacrifice, signed the bill in 1954 that transformed the November 11 observance of Armistice Day into “Veteran’s Day” – and if you’re one of those who served, thanks. We owe all veterans a debt of gratitude, and we owe the returning veterans of the current war the best support possible.

For those who served in the Military, I thank you.
